This listing is for a three session Newbie Knitting Class. These Newbie Knitting Classes will be held in person at Bistitchual on

Sunday October 20th, 27th and November 3rd from 12:30-2:00pm

So you want to knit, eh? Awesome!!! You probably wanna grab those needles and start making your first masterpiece RIGHT NOW!!! That energy is amazing. Hang onto that. However, we must start with the basics to avoid getting frustrated and overwhelmed right out of the gate.

Newbie Knitting is a Level 1 class for beginners. The goal of this class is to give you the tools and techniques needed to complete a basic project from beginning to end. We’ll start by introducing your hands to the needles and your fingers to the yarn. It can be clunky at first, but you will soon discover a natural rhythm that is uniquely your own.

We will move very slowly as we begin learning new techniques. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time for practising, asking questions and receiving 1 on 1 support from our instructor, Mike. He will also share helpful tools, tips and resources so you can continue your knitting adventure with confidence.

So let’s do this!!! It’s time to release your inner knitter!!!

(No experience necessary)

Materials: Yarn and needles will be provided.

What We’ll Learn

  • How to make a slip knot.
  • Casting on.
  • The Knit stitch.
  • The Purl stitch.
  • Exploring Knit / Purl combinations.
  • Binding off.
  • Weaving in ends.
  • Fixing common mistakes and how to avoid them.
  • Common uses of flat knitting.
  • Intro into Ravelry.

Please note that classes will only proceed if we have a minimum of two attendees. If the minimum is not met, there will be the option for a refund or to reschedule.
There will be a six person maximum for each class. Please pre-book your spot to let us know you are coming!

About the instructor:

Tired of disposing of clothes that were still perfectly wearable, Mike (he/him) started crafting mainly as a means of mending and repair. This led him to knitting (and later crochet), which pretty much immediately became one of his favourite tools of self-expression.
