Are you interested in learning to crochet? This class covers the basic stitches of crochet, including chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochets and double crochets, as well as the difference between working flat and working in the round. This class should give you the skills you need to try simple amigurumi and other projects. Classes run approximately two hours.
Required for the class:
-crochet hook (this should be an appropriate size to work with your yarn weight --if you're using DK, 4.0-4.5 mm are best, while worsted is great with a 5.0-5.5 mm hook). If you have questions about this, feel free to email before the class.
-yarn (DK or worsted weight is recommended, in a light colour. Black yarn is strongly discouraged)
-locking stitch marker
-A camera that works over video chat. The one built into a laptop or phone is fine, but I need to be able to see what you're doing to be able to help!
- Zoom. All of our classes are held on Zoom, a free video-conferencing platform. If you don't have an account, you can sign up here. Invitation links will be sent out 24 hours prior to class. Class will start promptly on the hour, so please download Zoom and be ready with all your materials gathered.
If you don't have the materials required, we have put together a kit with all the supplies you'll need which you can find here! If you choose to have your kit shipped, please allow enough time to receive your kit before the date of your class.
About the instructor:
Viviane is a queer person with an interest in fibre crafts that started with Tamora Pierce books as a young child. She learned to crochet as a kid, then relearned in University. She picked up knitting nearly 10 years ago and started working at a yarn store in 2017, where she quickly learned a whole lot more. She has taught beginner and intermediate level knitting skills since 2018, and is thrilled to be working with John and Kelsi on classes at Bistitchual!
